This is a personal project I worked on to create a realistic environment, to develop my skills in this area.
I started with the idea of a room in an abandoned Victorian-era building that had been converted into a blood-trafficking den.
The goal was to create a fully realistic environment without any initial concept art. Just a starting idea and as many real-world references as possible.
I was able to try out a whole range of different techniques, including using trimsheets and a modular kit to build the environment. I also configured vertex painting to blend the materials I’d created in Substance Designer, and optimised and set up the scene’s lighting.
A big thank you to Jeremy Cerisy, who mentored me on this project.
He provided excellent guidance throughout the process, both in terms of the artistic and technical aspects and in terms of thinking through the creation of a game level.
I can’t recommend his mentoring highly enough if you’re looking to improve your skills or want to try something new.
